Atripla (Efavirenz/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir)
Atripla Description
Atripla is a drug given to patients who have HIV. It is a combination of two different type of HIV medications. It contains two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors also referred to as NRTIs and one non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor also called as NNRTI. Atripla has 600 mg of Sustiva (efavirenz) and 300 mg of Viread (tenofovir) both of which are NRTIs, and it also contains 200 mg of Emtriva (emtricitabine) which is an NNRTI.
Conditions Treated by Atripla
Atripla helps the body block HIV reverse transcriptase. This is a viral enzyme that is required for the HIV to multiply. By lowering the amount of HIV in the blood, Atripla helps increase the number of T cells (CD4 cells) thus enhancing the immune system of the body. Hence your body immune system gets strengthened and it can fight against those infections that occur when your immune system is weak.
