Azilect (Rasagiline)

Azilect Drug Description

Azilect is a medicinal drug that belongs to a category of drugs known as monoamine oxidase-B or MAO-B inhibitors. It contains the chemical rasagiline which is an irreversible inhibitor of the aforementioned monoamine oxidase. The utility of rasagiline is in the monotherapy of Parkinson’s disease and is known to be selective for MAO-B over MAO-A by a factor of 14.

Azilect does its work by bringing about an increase in the levels of a particular group of chemicals found in the brain. Rasagiline found within Azilect is often used in conjunction with levodopa which is another drug.
