Creon 10

Creon 10 Drug Description

Creon 10 is the brand name of a medicine that belongs to a group of formulations commonly known as digestants. Its prime ingredient is pancreatin which is a digestive enzyme secreted naturally by the pancreas in your body. Pancreatin is a combination of the enzymes lipase, protease and amylase that aid in the digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Creon 10 will be prescribed by your physician in case the normal secretion of pancreatin in your body is hampered due to any natural or medical factors. The prime ingredient in Creon 10 is 10 000 USP units of lipase, 33 200 USP units of amylase, and 37 500 USP units of protease. The medicine is presented as capsules containing 249 mg of tan coloured minimicrospheres (granules) that discharge pancreatin in the delayed release format. The granules have a special enteric coating that protects them from being digested by the stomach acids before they can release the enzyme. This makes Creon 10 effective in helping you to digest your food better. Creon 10 also contains dimethicone, dibutyl phthalate, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose phthalate, polyethylene glycol and light mineral oil as the inactive ingredients. The capsule has a colourless transparent body with a brown cap with SOLVAY 1210 imprinted on it. It contains gelatine, titanium dioxide, yellow iron oxide and red iron oxide as excipients. The pancreatin contained in Creon 10 is obtained from the pancreatic glands of pigs. The capsules are presented in bottles containing 100 or 250 capsules each. The medicine is available only on prescription and is approved by the FDA. It is presented by Solvay Healthcare.

Conditions Treated by Creon 10

Creon 10 is recommended by physicians for use in patients where there is difficulty in digesting regular meals due to an abnormally low level of digestive enzymes (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency). This scarcity or lack of flow of normal digestive enzymes can be due to several reasons like surgical removal of pancreas (pancreatectomy) or parts of the stomach (gastrectomy), inflamed pancreas (pancreatitis), cystic fibrosis or pancreatic cancer wherein the tumour is blocking the normal release of pancreatin from the gland.
