Creon 25

Creon 25 Drug Description

Creon 25 is the brand name of a medicine that belongs to the group of medications known as digestants. It contains the digestive enzyme pancreatin. Pancreatin is secreted by the pancreas and is a combination of enzymes that aid in digestion of proteins, fat and carbohydrate. Protease, amylase and lipase are the enzymes present in pancreatin. Your physician will prescribe Creon 25 000 capsules for you if the normal secretion of pancreatin in your body is impaired. Reduced pancreatin secretion or its complete absence may be because of any disease, disorder or surgery. The prime ingredient in Creon 25 000 delayed release capsule is 18 000 FIP units of amylase, 25 000 FIP units of lipase and 1 000 FIP units of protease. It also contains cetyl alcohol, hypromellose phthalate, dimethicone, triethyl citrate and polyethylene glycol as the inactive ingredients. Each capsule has a size 0 hard gelatinous cover, a Swedish orange coloured cap and a transparent colourless body and contains enteric coated brown coloured minimicrosperes. The spheres contain pancreatin and the special coating helps to protect the granules from being digested by the stomach acids. This way, the enzyme is allowed to work on the food and digest it properly. The pancreatin in Creon 25 is derived from the pancreatic glands of pigs. It is presented in bottles of hundred capsules each. It is an FDA approved drug and available only on prescription.

Conditions Treated by Creon 25
