DDAVP Nasal Spray Description

DDAVP nasal spray is a medicinal drug primarily consisting of desmopressin acetate. In simple terms, it is an antidiuretic hormonal medicine. The DDAVP nasal spray is an aqueous solution for intranasal use. The pump is designed to give 01.ml of desmopressin acetate per spray. Each ml also contains sodium chloride, citric acid monohydrate, disodium phosphate dehydrate and benzalkonium chloride solution. The spray is available in a 5ml bottle with a pump. One bottle can deliver about 50 sprays. Although the DDAVO medicine comes in other forms (oral and intravenous), the nasal spray is also commonly administered for certain illnesses.

Under normal circumstances, these side effects may disappear after a dose reduction. In cases where symptoms or side effects persist, immediate medical attention may be necessary. Other common side effects of the drug include nosebleed, sore throat, cough, cold, lung or respiratory infections. Constant use of the spray may also result in nostril pain or swelling. If the pain becomes unbearable, doctors may recommend the use of a pain killer or reduce the frequency of the spray. Middle aged and elderly patients may experience sudden chills, fever, dizziness, drowsiness, gastrointestinal problems, nausea etc. It is also common for patients to suffer from eye pain or other eye problems and infections like conjunctivitis. DDAVP may increase the probability of water intoxication if taken with drugs like selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, chlorpromazine, NSAids, opiate analgesics, carbamazepine and lamotrigine.
