Effient Description

Effient is the brand name of an oral tablet that is prescribed to patients who have undergone angioplasty. It is an anti-platelet medicine which works by preventing your blood platelets from sticking together and blocking your arteries by forming clots. Arteries in patients who experience chest pain or cardiac arrest are often found to be clogged and hardened. Angioplasty is done in such cases to mechanically widen the arteries thereby ensuring the smooth flow of blood and lowering of pressure on the arterial walls or heart muscles. However, angioplasty itself is not a long-term solution against future cardiac arrests as the arteries can get clogged again. To ensure the smooth flow of blood through the arteries, your doctor will presribe Effient to reduce your risk of another cardiac arrest in the near future. Effient is manufactured by Daiichi Sankyo and marketed by Eli Lilly and Company in Canada. The main ingredient in this medicine is prasugrel and it is available as 5 mg (5MG etched one one side) and 10 mg (10MG etched on one side) tablets.

Conditions Treated by Effient

Effient is a platelet inhibitor which can be co-prescribed with aspirin as an effective therapy in preventing cardiac arrests. It is indicated in patients suffering from acute coronoary syndrome (ACS) like unstable angina (UA), ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) or non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) which can be managed with inital or delayed percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). In patients who have already undergone angioplasty to open a clogged artery, Effient is prescribed to reduce the incidents of future stent thrombosis which can potentially block a cleared artery leading to another cardiac arrest. It has been clinically proven the Effient along with aspirin can effectively reduce your risk of heart attack, clogged arteries, stent thrombosis (or clotting of blood due to stent implanted during angioplasty) or even death. In case you or your loved one has suffered an acute coronary syndrome, your doctor will immediately prescribe Effient in order to prevent further blockage of arteries and smoothen the flow of blood.
