Lysodren is the retail or brand name for mitotane tablets. It is an oral medication used to treat certain types of cancers. In this sense it is a chemotherapeutic agent. When the drug is being administered to older patients, it is advisable to start with low dosages then increase the dose gradually depending on the patients reaction to the drug.

Lysodren Side Effects

If you face difficulty in breathing, tightening or swelling of facial muscles, irritation in the tongue or throat then you must immediately seek medical help. You may need to be hospitalized or the doctor may have to lower your dosage. Other common side effects may include feeling faint, change in heartbeat, increased sweating, ticklish feeling under feet and palms, sudden rise in body temperature and chills, blurred vision or confusion. Rapid change in blood pressure is also a common side effect of Lysodren. However if your blood pressure falls too low or climbs too high it is better to discontinue medication or decrease dosage. Lysodren accelerates the metabolism of Warfarin leading to the need for increased dosages of Warfarin. Lysodren should be given with caution to patients receiving other drugs for hepatic enzyme induction. Lysodren should not be given to patients who have shown hypersensitive reactions to it in the past.
