Macrodantin Drug Description

Macrodantin capsules are an oral medication drug that is primarily made of Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystals. This is a chemical that is yellowish in colour. The drug comes in various doses ranging from 25mg, 50mg to 100 mg. The drug also comprises of several other inactive ingredients like edible black ink, starch, titanium dioxide, gelatine, lactose, etc. The medicine may also come in a liquid form for younger patients or those not in a position to take whole tablets.

The drug is primarily used as an antibacterial agent for urinary tract infections. It is therefore often used to treat various kinds of infections that are caused by bacteria. a.) Typical dosage recommendations

Some of the more severe side effects of Macrodantin include diarrhea that is either extremely watery or bloody, change in skin tone, confusion and weakness, easy physical bruising and bleeding, sudden rise in body temperature, body chills, physical pain and aches, sudden weight loss, problems in breathing specifically shortness in breath, nausea, pain in the upper stomach area, change in appetite, dark urine, change in the colour of stools, yellowing of the skin and eyes, sudden headaches, ringing sensation in the ears, problems with vision, chest pain, wheezing and dry cough, development of red spots on the body, severe blistering etc. If you suffer from any of the above severe side effects and moreover if they last for more than a couple of hours after taking the medicine without any signs of subsiding then it is necessary to contact your doctor. Some of the common and minor side effects include mild diarrhoea, change in the colour of urine to rust colour or brown, vaginal itching, upset stomach etc. These side effects may disappear on their own and are usually not a cause of concern unless they worsen with every passing hour. Another common side effect includes severe allergic reactions like skin hives, problems breathing, swelling on the face and inside the mouth, on the tongue or even nose. Although this list comprises most of the common side effects of the medicine, in most cases patients may suffer from side effects not listed here.
