Menopur Injection Description

Menopur Injection is the brand name of a hormonal injection that is prescribed to treat infertility in women. It is the only FDA approved medication that is widely used in Canada to improve fertility rates among women who are not being able to conceive naturally due to certain medical conditions. This safe and highly effective prescription drug is a preparation of naturally occurring gonadotrophin hormones, also known as hMG (human menopausal gonadotrophin). Menopur Injection Dosage Information

a.) Typical dosage recommendations

Typical dosage recommendation is decided by your physician depending on your physical condition and requirements. If you are undergoing GnRH (Gonadotrophin Releasing Hormone) treatment as part of your ART plan, the initial dosage should be between 150 IU to 225 IU. Depending on the response, the dosage may be increased to a maximum of 450 IU daily. However, treatment with normal dosage should not be continued in excess of twenty days. If you are not undergoing GnRH (Gonadotrophin Releasing Hormone) treatment, the initial dosage is between 75-150 IU per day. Depending on the response, your physician may increase this dosage to a maximum of 225 IU daily to be continued for seven days minimum.

b.) Missing a dose

In case you have missed a particular dose schedule, seek guidance from your medical caregiver. Since Menopur Injection is a hormonal preparation, it is highly risky to make up for the missed dose by increasing your dosage schedule on your own.

c.) Overdosing

It is unlikely that you will overdose Menopur Injection as you will be strictly following your physician’s guidance regarding dosage schedules. In case you have overdosed, you would be at a risk of the ovarian OHSS syndrome (hyper-stimulation of the ovaries). This can be a potentially fatal condition and you should consult your medical caregiver immediately if you have any symptoms like abnormal swelling or pain in the abdomen with or without feeling nauseous. Your doctor will also check if you have any physical defects in your uterus or any cancerous growth in your genital organs. Disclose past or present incidences of vaginal bleeding due to unknown cause. Menopur Injection may not be suitable for you if you have any problem with your adrenal glands, thyroid glands, liver, kidneys or if you have a family history of diabetes. Menopur Injection may also not work if you suffer from polycystic ovary or have previously experienced ovarian failure to produce eggs. Do not take Menopur Injection if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not share the medicine with anybody else and always stick to the dose recommended by your physician.

Menopur Injection Side Effects

As with all medicine, Menopur Injection too has some side effects which become more apparent in some women while others may not experience the same level of discomfort. • General itching, rash, redness, pain, tenderness, burning sensation or swelling around the injection site
• Difficulty in your eyesight

While the above symptoms are minor and usually subside within a short time, you may experience severe side effects too; which include:

• Abnormal swelling in the abdominal region, accompanied by pain and a tendency to vomit
• Sudden swelling in your ankles, feet or hands
• Sudden onset of allergic conditions like rashes and hives on the skin or swelling and redness around the mouth, tongue or face area.
• Any shortness of breath
• Infrequent urination
• Abnormal weight gain
• Abnormal vaginal bleeding

Though there are no recorded studies on the interaction of Menopur Injection with other molecules, share with your doctor all your past and present medical history for your own safety.
