Prevacid Solu Tabs

Prevacid Solu Tabs Drug Description

Prevacid Solu Tabs are delayed release orally disintegrating tablets. The generic name of Prevacid Solu Tabs is lansoprazole and the IUPAC name is 2-[[[3-methyl-4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)-2-pyridyl] methyl] sulfinyl] benzimidazole. Lansoprazole, which belongs to the class of proton pump inhibitors, is a very light brown to almost white, odourless, crystalline powder. It decomposes and melts at 166 degrees Centigrade. Prevacid Solu Tabs are available in the form of 15 mg and 30 mg tablets. Each tablet contains 15 mg or 30 mg of lansoprazole as the active ingredient. The inactive components in the tablets are citric acid, lactose monohydrate-microcrystalline cellulose sphere, methacrylic acid, mannitol, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, triethyl citrate, magnesium carbonate, cropovidone, aspartame2, polyacrylate, artificial strawberry flavour, titanium dioxide, ferric oxide, polysorbate 80, polyethylene glycol and talc.

Conditions Treated by Prevacid Solu Tabs

Doctors prescribe Prevacid for a variety of conditions due to excess acid formation by the gastric glands. The drug is effective for a short term remedy for the healing of active duodenal ulcers. Physicians use Prevacid on patients suffering from active benign gastric ulcers and gastric ulcers associated with non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAID). It is advisable to prescribe the medication for about 8 weeks for both conditions. Prevacid is effective for decreasing the chances of gastric ulcers in patients who take NSAID over a long period. Prevacid is effective against heartburn and other conditions associated with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. Physicians may prescribe a course of the medication for 8 weeks to treat all levels of erosive oesophagitis and may recommend a follow up treatment for another 8 weeks to prevent a recurrence of the disease. Prevacid is effectual for the long term treatment of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, which is a pathological hypersecretory condition.
