Reyataz Drug description

Reyataz also called as atazanavir belongs to a class of compounds called protease inhibitor which are antiretroviral agents. This drugs acts by blocking protease which is a protein that the human-immuno virus (HIV) needs to replicate. The drug is supplied in the form of capsules meant for oral administration. The capsules are supplied in strengths of 100 mg, 150 mg and 200 mg.

Hence you must avoid driving, operating machinery and any other activities that require mental alertness unless you have become accustomed to this drug and unless you know how this drug affects you. Your doctor will require you to undergo regular tests such as blood tests, urine tests, serum triglycerides, cholesterol etc to see how the drug is affecting your body and whether it is benefitting you. Hence you must follow all instructions as given by your doctor and get all the recommended tests done whenever required. Reyataz can make pills taken for birth control, vaginal rings, patches or injections less effective. Hence you must discuss with your doctor, alternative non-hormonal methods of birth control such as condoms, spermicides or diaphragms.
