Tofranil Drug description
Tofranil belongs to a class of drugs called imipramines. The drug is a tricyclic antidepressant and is supplied in the form of tablets meant to be taken orally. The drug is a member of a group of compounds called the dibenzazepine group. The inactive ingredients of Tofranil are cellulose compounds, sodium starch glycolate, calcium phosphate, talc, sucrose, povidone, docusate sodium, magnesium stearate, iron oxides, titanium dioxide and polyethylene glycol.

Doctors prescribe Tofranil for treating long lasting mental depression. It is also given as an adjunctive therapy for reducing the incidence of enuresis (bed-wetting) in patients who are more than 5 years of age. This medicine can affect your mental condition and even cause drowsiness or blurred vision. Hence you must avoid activities or sports that require you to concentrate or be mentally alert such as driving, operating equipment or machinery etc. Tofranil can cause your skin to become extra-sensitive to sunlight and you may observe rashes on your skin after exposure to the sun. Hence you must be careful and wear protective clothing while stepping out in the sun and apply sunscreen. You must also never stop taking this drug suddenly and without consulting your doctor as it can have very harmful effects on your body. Tofranil will stay in your bloodstream even after you have stopped taking the medicine. Hence you must be careful for about 1-2 weeks since it can still have some effects on your body.
