Urocit-K 10 Drug Description

Urocit-K 10 is the brand name of a medicine that is prescribed for the treatment of kidney stones. The presence of stones inside the kidney is medically termed as nephrolitiasis and is one of the most common forms of urological disorders across the world. Kidney stones are hard, crystalline structures usually made of uric acid or calcium oxalate deposits. Typical symptoms of having stones in the kidney include severe pain in the flanks, abdomen, groin and passing blood through the urine. Urocit-K is an oral extended release tablet which has potassium citrate as its prime ingredient. Urocit-K 10 contains 10mEq (1080mg) of potassium citrate along with magnesium stearate and carnauba wax as the excipients. It is a tan coloured, uncoated elliptical shaped tablet with MPC 60 imprinted on one side and MISSION embossed on the other side. It is supplied in bottles of 100 tablets. Urocit-K 10 is approved by the FDA and is available on prescription only. It is presented by Mission Pharmacal Company.

Conditions Treated by Urocit-K 10

Urocit-K 10 is prescribed for the treatment of Renal Tubular Acidosis (RTA), Hypocitraturic Calcium Oxalate Nephrolithiasis of any origin and Uric Acid Lithiasis which may or may not have calcium stones. RTA and Uric Acid Lithiasis are medical conditions wherein there is an accumulation of uric acid in the kidney, bladder or urinary tract due to faulty filtration. Over time, this leads to the formation of uric acid stones inside the kidneys. Hypocitraturic Calcium Oxalate Nephrolithiasis is a condition wherein the urinary system becomes saturated with calcium deposits leading to the growth of calcium stones in the kidney. Treatment with Urocit-K 10 helps to restore the natural chemicals in the urine that prevents the formation of these mineral crystals and keeps the urinary system free from mineral deposits.
