Conditions Treated by Atarax
Atarax is an oral medication commonly used to treat patients suffering from skin allergies like hives and dermatitis. The drug is also prescribed as a sedative to treat patients suffering from anxiety disorders and severe stress related tension. It is sometimes used along with other medications to anesthetize a patient when they need sedation. In certain cases, the drug is used to control nausea and vomiting. Doctors may also prescribe the medicine for other diseases not listed above. The medicine works by reducing stress and activity in the nervous system thereby relaxing the body.
Atarax Dosage Information
a.) Typical dosage recommendations
The recommended dosage for Atarax is different for every medical condition. Patients who are being treated for anxiety and tension may be advised to take 50 mg doses daily. Depending on the severity of the condition, 100mg may also be prescribed in certain cases. Children under 6 years may be given 50mg doses per day but rarely more than that. For Dermatitis and other conditions the recommended dosage is usually between 50mg to 100mg, prescribed twice a day. Sometimes, subsequent doses may also be administered temporarily during treatment. In most cases, doses are adjusted according to a patient’s response to treatment. While on Atarax medication, patients must be observed regularly. Changes in physical conditions may require immediate medical care.
b.) Missing a dose
If you miss a dose of Atarax it is usually safe to take another replacement tablet as soon as you realize that you have missed a dose. However, if you realize that you missed a dose when it is almost time for your next dose then it isn’t advisable to take two tablets at the same time. This may lead to an overdose. In this case, taking one pill should be fine. If you still experience any discomfort then contact your doctor. Depending on the severity of your condition and symptoms the doctor will advise you accordingly.
c.) Overdosing
If you overdose on Atarax you may experience some physical discomfort like extreme drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, faintness and dizzy spells. It is important to seek medical attention as soon as you realize that you have overdosed on Atarax. Depending on the severity of your illness your doctor will take appropriate action. Sometimes, immediate hospitalization may be required in case of an overdose.
