Evista (raloxifene)
Evista Description
Raloxifene HCl is a selective estrogen receptor modulator that is marketed as an oral medication under the brand name of Evista. An off-white powdery chemical substance, it is partially soluble in water. Evista is marketed in blister cards with 15 tablets in each card. Each tablet contains 60mg of Raloxifene HCl. Evista tablets should be stored at room temperature in a dry place away from direct sunlight. This drug is commonly used to treat bone conditions in postmenopausal women.

The estrogenic property of Evista affects the formation and breakdown of bones and helps in reducing the loss of bone tissues. Evista Dosage Information
a.) Typical Recommended Dosage
Each of the 15 tablets of Evista in a blister card is marked with a day of the week. Therefore, your first tablet should be the one marked with the day on which you start the medication. Thereafter the drug should be taken once in a day and care should be taken that you maintain a regular routine and take it at the same time everyday. When you start with a new blister strip make sure that the day labeled on the tablet matches the actual day you are taking it. This drug can be taken with or without food. Evista is specifically made to treat postmenopausal women only and should not be taken by anyone else.
b.) Missing A Dose
If you miss a dose then you should take a tablet as soon as you can. But if you remember about it only on the next day and at a time that is very close to that of your next dose, don’t try to make up the missed dose. The gap between two doses should not be less than the prescribed gap.

Evista Side Effects
Common side effects that you could have from using Evista are flu, swelling of limbs, joint pains, leg cramps, sweating and hot flashes. In some instances patients have reported allergic reactions like hives, swelling of the face, limbs, throat or tongue. These incidences should be treated immediately. In rare cases Evista has caused sudden headaches, vision changes, speech problems, chest pains, breathing problems, irregular heart rate and even numbness on one side of the body. These are extreme cases that require immediate medical attention.
