Hyzaar (losartan/hydrochlorothiazide)
Hyzaar Description
Hyzaar is a medicinal drug containing a combination of losartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Losartan is categorized as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist drug. Losartan is used primarily for the treatment of high blood pressure or hypertension. Losartan is also known to delay the progression and onset of diabetic nephropathy and may also be used to reduce the progression of renal disease in patients suffering from type 2 diabetes, microalbuminuria, proteinuria or hypertension. Losartan is usually recommended for patients under the age of 55. Hydrochlorothiazide on the other hand is a thiazide diuretic, which helps in preventing the body from absorbing excessive amounts of salt, which in turn can bring about fluid retention.
