Tricor (fenofibrate)
Tricor Description
Tricor is a medicinal drug that belongs to a class of drugs called fenofibrates. Fenofibrate in turn belongs to the fibrate group of drugs. Fenofibrate finds use in lowering cholesterol levels in patients who are likely to develop cardiovascular disease. Fenofibrate lowers both low density lipoprotein or LDL as well as very low density lipoprotein or VLDL levels as is characteristic of other such fibrates. The drug also increases levels of high density lipoprotein or HDL and reduces the level of triglycerides in the body. Fenofibrate is also known to show effective results against insulin resistance which is characteristic of the metabolic syndrome and is used to treat hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia.
