Aggrenox (acetylsalicylic/dipyridamole)

Aggrenox Description

Aggrenox is a prescription drug containing a combination of dipyridamole and acetylsalicylic acid (Marketed under the brand name Aspirin). Acetylsalicylic acid is categorized as a salicylate drug and helps in reducing fever, pain and inflammation within the body. Dipyridamole averts the formation of blood clots by preventing platelets from sticking to one another. Taken as a capsule Aggrenox contains 200mg of dipyridamole and 25mg of acetylsalicylic acid. Aggrenox is primarily administered to reduce the occurrence of strokes in people who have had blood clots and also to reduce the risk of mini strokes, alternatively referred to as a TIA or transient ischemic attack.

You should take each dosage of Aggrenox with a filled glass or 8 ounces of water. The drug can be administered with or without food. Aggrenox Side Effects

Drug Interactions With Aggrenox

• Medications for gout such as Anturan (sulfinpyrazone) or Benemid (probenecid)
• Medication for Alzheimer’s Disease such as Exelon (rivastigmine), Razadyne (galantamine) or Aricept (donepezil)
• ACE inhibitors such as Capoten (captopril), Altace (ramipril), Zestril (lisinopril), Accupril (quinapril), Vasotec (enalapril) and Lotensin (benazepril)
• Medications for diabetes that are administered through the mouth
• Diuretics or water pills such as Hydrodiuril (hydrochlorothiazide), Lasix (furosemide) and Midamor (amiloride)
• Beta blockers such as Coreg (carvedilol), Tenormin (atenolol), Lopressor (metoprolol), Betapace (sotalol), Blocadren (timolol) and Inderal (propranolol)
• Medication for seizures such as Dilantin (phenytoin), Tegretol (carbamazepine) and phenobarbital
• NSAIDs (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) such as ibuprofen, Orudis (ketoprofen), Relafen (nabumetone), Feldene (piroxicam), Naprosyn (naproxen) and Indocin (indomethacin)
