Ventolin HFA Description

Ventolin HFA is a medicinal drug that belongs to a class of drugs called bronchodilators. It contains the chemical albuterol which is a short acting Beta 2 adrenergic receptor antagonist used to treat bronchospasms in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

a.) Typical Dosage Recommendations

Usually, Ventolin HFA is taken in the form of a nebulizer or inhaler device. When you are using the device for the first time, spray around 4 test sprays into the air, keeping the device away from yourself. This is known as priming. Measure the exact medicine amount by using the provided dropper and put the requisite amount of liquid into the nebulizer’s medication chamber • Attach the mouthpiece to the chamber and then attach it to the compressor. Sit up straight and put the mouthpiece inside your mouth. Breathe evenly and slowly till all of the medicine has been inhaled (which should take around 5 to 15 minutes).

Take very close care while storing the medication. Make sure to always keep the device at room temperature and away from any heat and moisture. Extreme heat may cause the medicine canister of the inhaler to burst.

b.) Missing a Dose

If you end up missing a dose, take the missed dose the moment you remember. If however you remember when it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not however take any extra medication to make up for this missed dose.

c.) Overdosing

Ventolin HFA Warnings

Ventolin HFA can prove to be harmful if you happen to be suffering from certain conditions. • MAO inhibitors such as:

• diuretics such as water pills
• Antidepressants such as:
  • Sinequan (doxepin)
  • Tofranil (imipramine)
  • Aventyl (nortriptyline)
  • Elavil (amitriptyline)

The above however is not an exclusive list and there are other drugs which should not be used simultaneously and concurrently with Ventolin HFA.
